Why Photographs Matter
In many ways, photographs are the reason Cherish Me exists.
Like many people, we’ve lost photographs over the years. Life gets busy, things get misplaced, and before you realise it, pictures slowly disappear, scattered across boxes and different branches of the family. Most of us are doing exactly the same thing now with our phones - thousands of pictures, rarely looked at, quietly waiting.
Now that we have a family of our own, there are photographs we wish we could go back to and find. Moments with grandparents and relatives who are no longer here, but who meant a great deal to us.
It’s only when those people are gone that you realise how much those small pieces of paper meant.
When you start thinking about the future, about your children and the things that will one day matter to them, the faces they’ll want to remember or discover, and the stories behind the family they came from, you begin to realise that photographs quietly carry all of that.
Small Pieces of Paper, Big Stories
For decades, photography was something physical. Prints lived in albums, shoeboxes, drawers and envelopes. They were passed around the table at family gatherings or brought out during quiet moments of nostalgia.
Those prints might look simple, but they often hold some of the most important memories a family has.
A photograph can instantly take you back to a place, a person, or a moment that might otherwise have faded with time, or reveal a part of your family's story that might otherwise have been lost.
How We Digitise Photographs
Every photograph is scanned using professional archival flatbed scanners - the kind designed specifically for photographic work. These capture significantly more detail than phone apps or consumer auto-feed scanners, preserving the texture, colour and tone of the original print as faithfully as possible.
Where it helps, we can apply gentle restoration to photographs that have faded or picked up marks over time. This might include correcting colour, balancing exposure, or removing small dust marks and scratches.
Our approach is always careful and respectful. The aim is never to reinvent a photograph or apply heavy automated effects. We simply want to help the image look as good as it reasonably can, while remaining true to the moment it was captured.
Where restoration is applied, we provide both the original scan and the restored version, so you always have both.
File Formats & Delivery
All photographs are delivered as high-resolution JPEG files, suitable for viewing, sharing, and long-term storage, with a free secure digital download included as standard.
For those who want archival-quality copies, we can also provide TIFF master files, which are significantly larger and better suited to long-term digital preservation. Due to their size, storage will often need to be supplied or purchased when choosing this option, or clients need to ensure they can download large files.
For larger collections, files can also be supplied on USB drives or external storage. Typical orders range from 200 to 1,000 photographs, and we're always happy to discuss larger family archives.

Preserving Them for the Future
Once photographs are digitised, they become much easier to share, store and protect. They can be easily backed up, shared with family members, or brought together to create something new: a family timeline, a tribute film, or a story that connects generations.
Something that once sat quietly in a drawer can become something living again.
It's easy to underestimate how important photographs are while the people in them are still around. But over time, they often become some of the most treasured things a family owns, and sadly, quite often, things many families lose.
We're here to help make sure those memories don't slowly fade away.
